About

Welcome to Spoudazo Press! Spoudazo is a Greek word used by the Apostles to give an idea of diligence and vigor toward an appointed end. Not only must we, as Christians, understand our own beliefs, but we are also called to proclaim and defend our faith. With Spoudazo.

My name is Sydney Bennett, and the goal of this website is to be used by God, in whatever way He seems fit, for that end. I desire to exalt God’s glory and supremacy above all things, by sharing His goodness in the truth of the Gospel with everyone I can.

I enjoy studying, writing and speaking about a wide variety of subjects, including literature, politics and worldview. Through high school, I competed in the National Christian Forensics and Communication Association which gave me an opportunity to study more and the privilege to present my ideas to others.

This is also where I met my husband, Colton Bennett, who is serving as a combat medic in the United States Army. We got married on March 6, 2021, and are currently living at our first duty station: Fort Riley, KS.

Recently, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder. This is a disorder of the amygdala, which controls pain/fear signals and fine motor function. Basically, it means my brain sends the wrong signals to my central nervous system. Learning to live with this disability, as well as the loss and pain that comes with it, has been one of my most recent struggles, and a way in which God is building strength. I document here some of my difficulties and triumphs through this illness. Hopefully, something in my pain might resonate with you, as we look to the Cross through the present brokenness of this world and our bodies.

The picture of my life wouldn’t be complete unless I mention God’s absolute faithfulness to me and my family, even in the midst of unspeakably hard circumstances. On November 22, 2017, the day before Thanksgiving, my ten-year-old brother, Isaiah, went to be with our Lord after a violent horseback riding accident. This year has been the beginning of a new season in our lives – a season riven with grief, heavy loss, and a hope that looks beyond the heavy burden of the grave.

When tragedy strikes, faith does not make it hurt less. Grief is never easy. It makes us weak. But when you have nothing left in this world, the sovereignty and goodness and all the promises of God must become the rock you fall on by His grace because everything else has been stripped from under your feet. God has used this tragedy to draw us closer to himself, as the burden of our pain and sorrow has pressed us deeper in the Rock that is higher than I. Writing on Isaiah’s story and our walk through grief has been an immense gift to me, as I dwell on the promises of God, and by His grace, share some of the hope I have in Him with others who may be made to walk a similar road.

If you are new to this blog, here is a short summary of our beliefs and purpose.

First and foremost, I am a Christian.

I am a sinner, formerly at enmity with God and incapable, by works or desire, to bring myself into His Holy presence or save myself from His just condemnation. But God, solely out of His pure grace and not out of anything I have done, has chosen me and redeemed me through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. By Christ’s blood and righteousness, I have been justified, am being sanctified, and will be glorified in the presence of God forever.

I affirm the Five Solas of the Reformation: that we are saved by Grace Alone, through Faith Alone, in Christ Alone, for the Glory of God alone and the authority and confirmation of my belief is Scripture alone.

SeeWhat are the Five Solas?

I affirm the doctrines of grace, also known as Calvinism.

See: What are the 5 points of Calvinism?

See: Why do you believe in Calvinism? (An open letter to a fellow believer)

And most importantly, I affirm that our purpose in life is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever, and toward that end, I pray that the articles and podcast shared here would be a blessing to you, and would encourage your faith and joy in exalting God above all else.

Sometimes I will write articles for other websites and blogs. For example, I am a staff writer for Top Christian Books, and you can take a look at this post I wrote for The Rebelution. If you have a blog or emag that you would like to include a Spoudazo Post in, simply contact me here.

I also enjoy public speaking. I have spoken at several conferences, as well as working as the Outreach Liaison for our local Pregnancy Resource Center. If you are interested in having me speak at one of your events, shoot me an email and we can get in contact. I’d love to meet you!
