Covenant of Works – Genesis 2:4-17

God placed Adam in a garden with all the benefits therein but commanded him not to eat from one particular tree.  This was a covenant of works.  Adam could continue in the paradise garden as long as he was obedient to God’s one command.  Adam failed this test of obedience, and in Adam we all failed as well.

But God would send a Second Adam – a better Adam – Jesus Christ: One who would obey all the law perfectly, as well as pay the punishment for the sins of Adam’s fallen race, thereby purchasing salvation for His people.
